Biostatistics and Epidemiology Unit
The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Unit is responsible for evaluating and reporting national and international data concerning diseases and health issues within the Institute’s target audience—specifically maternal, child, and adolescent health. These activities are conducted within the framework of scientific research principles, utilizing the comprehensive capabilities of statistical science.
Duties and responsibilities:
a) To develop projects that enhance inter-institutional cooperation in order to improve data quality within the Institute's fields of interest.
b) To sign protocols with various institutions to establish the Institute's statistics and decision support systems using reliable national and international statistical data, and to update this data annually.
c) To conduct multi-centre research on topics where data is currently unavailable, perform ICD-10 coding studies, and achieve high-quality data outputs in compliance with international standards through collaboration with other institutions.
d) To establish control systems for diseases within the Institute's field of interest and to develop protocols with universities, private or public institutions, and specialist associations to create cohorts for researchers.
e) To establish protocols with universities, private or public institutions for statistical and epidemiological studies aimed at examining the distribution, prevalence, and determinants of diseases and health-related conditions within the Institute's target population.
f) To collect, interpret, and utilize health information to be used in necessary R&D activities aimed at improving the health of the target population within the Institute's field of interest.
g) To conduct collaborative studies with researchers from different disciplines.
h) To perform the tasks referred to the unit by the Head of the Institute, based on the advisory decisions made by the Science Boards within the Institute concerning the unit's field of duty.
i) To create, maintain, and ensure the up-to-dateness of necessary records and documentation related to the field of activity.
j) To plan and participate in educational activities such as seminars and courses, and to conduct project management and collaborative initiatives within the field of activity.
k) To carry out activities for the production of guidelines, books, publications, and other required materials related to the field of activity.
l) To prepare and present research regarding conducted studies for national and international scientific meetings, and to participate in those deemed appropriate.
m) To contribute to the Institute’s operations in accordance with its corporate vision, mission, and ethical principles.
n) To fulfil other duties as assigned by the Head of the Institute.
